The only nice decoration in the town of Jackson. Really, I looked hard! From Home Again storefront. I think they thought it was strange that the fire marshal was taking this picture....

Rainy December

This last week brought icy driveways, near miss wrecks, and rain. Yuck. Not what we usually experience in December! The week wraps up with feeding together at the Walton Ranch on Saturday and a great walk with Ruby.

Our BIG Event!

Michael and I both got to respond to the big Jackson gas explosion on Thursday. Being first onscene, I took a deep breath and assumed Incident Command. Micheal was heading south and positioned just right to load up into Engine 31 and respond from Hoback. His crew made an important attack on pallets stacked with the 5 gallon LPG tanks one finds at stores. I have been told by Amerigas authorities that our most significant danger were these pallets. At the time, we were all focused on the big ball of fire located at the propane truck (see videos). As IC, I sure appreciate Station 3's work to get water on these cylinders right away to prevent further explosions. Good work to the Nation Crew!! There have been many articles and reports issued on the explosion. This is a big deal here. That no one was seriously injured is somewhat of a miracle; I was planning for fatalities as I set up the incident. I have linked these press releases and reports (if only for the sake of history - I hope to get to 84 and pull these reports back up on the screen to remember!). As Incident Commander of a scene like this, one recognizes alot can go wrong. There were >120 people working under my command. That night, after the incident, I got a little shakey - I will confess - thinking of all the things that could have gone wrong. As an organization, we work hard, we train hard, we put up with each other's egos and disfunctionalities so that at moments like this, we can do the right things. And we walk away, proud. Proud and damn privlaged to be part of team that can bring order out of complete chaos. If there is such a thing as a good incident - this is one of them. (If the links don't work, just google jackson hole explosion. There are some amazing videos and pictures.)

Back To Flat Creek

Friend Mack and I went on a hunting expedition back into my old Flat Creek country. Up the steep trail south of Flat Creek Lodge, we rode our strong steeds to the open meadow at the top. We then made a good trek afoot to look out across acres and acres of beautiful country. Our 12.56 mile ride got an A for antler, a E for effort and a T for trying. Yes, it was worth getting up at 3am for this adventure! Great to spend the day with you Mack!! Good luck hunting!

Note, Archie, the mule, his head is about the same size as the antler! Nice scarf, Mack!

Packing it Out

Michael and I helped pack a friend's sheep camp out on Friday/Saturday. Here are some photos from that adventure.

A rainbow to end the day. We got rained on and snowed on but for just a short time - could have been a whole bunch worse for weather!

Fall Planting

Tulips and garlic.

Mom's coon fence keeps cat out of what he thinks is a giant cat box!

Things still look good in the greenhouse.

Chores around the house today. Feels like a Saturday!

The Day Before Smoke Got Kicked

Look how happy the Smoke Dog is!! Today, he got kicked by horse, Mia, and is now in a cast. Two broken bones in his foot. It was a lousy day for Smoke.

Still, the cows got moved back to the Walton Ranch and I got to drive the new Dodge! A week's worth of work and the vet bill is paid!!
