Lean, Organic Meat!

Darker than a night in hell. That's how dark it was as Michael and I rode down the trail opening day of elk season on Friday. Twenty minutes before sunrise, I spotted this elk and was able to get a shot. As they say, that's when the work started! Of course, he ended up in a gully! My trusty guide got him gutted and quartered and loaded atop the mules. We walked the 4 plus miles out. By 4pm, the elk was delivered to the processor in Idaho! Thank you Mr. Elk for giving us a year's worth of meat.

Fantastic Guide and Awesome Husband! He was hoping to not get quite so blood-covered on this one!

Me at the elk in the gully.

This was the first time we packed meat on Cosmo. Kind of expected a rodeo, but he stood quietly and didn't even snort! How to make the "A Mule List". Good job, Cosmo!!

Garden and last week wrap up

So, the garden was not a complete flop! Look how beautiful it is. Thanks to a tarp and electric heater - rigged by Michael, of course - it got past the two nights of 20 degrees and is soaking up the 75+ Indian Summer temps. The cage proves it isn't the soil, it isn't the rodents - it was the birds eating down those tender greens!

The tomatoes and peppers are out of the greenhouse. I'm already looking forward to next year's garden. Will be planting garlic here in the next couple of weeks!

Here's some pictures from Stephanie and my great float trip down the Snake River (Pacific to Deadman's) with guide Jason Wright! Thanks Jason, we had a great time!!

Creation of a Raised Bed Garden

He says, "Our yard just got bigger."

I say, "I just got more garden space!!"

This repurpose project took old forest service picnic table tops (found in a burn pile) and converted them to a fantastic raised bed garden. Even better, my designer (Michael) thinks it is redwood - 3" slabs! We added the food storage sign for fun. This garden will grow next year's garlic crop!

Thank you Michael!!

Book Review

Perhaps one of the most intense books written. Viktor Fankl’s story is a reflection of his time in Auschvitz, his observation of why some prisoners survived and others did not, his reflections of what meaning is in life, and his studies in helping desperate human beings. If you aren’t thankful for all the amazing things in your life after reading this book, then you are not paying attention to how sincerely lucky you are! Simon Vance reads this book with a voice that makes you feel like you are listening to Viktor himself. I give this book a  star rating.

Thank You Friends Todd & Janet

Happy Birthday to Michael!

Janet and Todd took us floating on the Snake for an amazing day of fly fishing! Both rowed most of the end of the day so we could have a chance at the elusive trout! It was an amazing day!

Toast the the birthday boy!

It rained, but it was still so beautiful!

Todd gets the big fish of the day! (Janet gets the big teeth of the day!)

Great medicine for the soul! Thanks for showing us the tricks of the river!
