Random Pictures

They say the one who returns from vacation is the one who needs it the most.  Agreed.  What a week.  Here are some random pictures from my new camera.  I fear we may have a serious issue with our boat motor........This season's last (?) cruise around the lake and the view from the Coulier.  What a wonderful day it was!!

Back From the Wilderness

If it weren't for the two very bad wrecks - Susies' rollover (with stiches to follow later from another accident) and Micheal's mule wreck - this would have been a most excellent pack trip.  We are all thankful the services of medical helicopter rescue were not needed (either time).  No bugs, cool wet weather.  Amazing country!!

Moments Before the Mosquito Attack!

When we descended down to the swamp of the Walton Ranch, the wind quit blowing, and the mosquitoes attacked us all - it was somewhat like a horror movie.  We turned around and went back!  Hope it's not that bad up in the mountains........

  Still, a nice weekend.  This is what the Snake River looked like below our place on Saturday.  It was a hot, hot day.  I believe records were set on numbers of people on the water that day!  Photo by Dave Cernicek.

A Morning Walk Around the Yard

What a good way to start a day.  To walk around the yard, dew still on the grass.  Cool, fresh.  The sun is just rising.  Such visual delight!

Friday Fishing!

Having worked far too many hours this week, I fished and then finished the day at work.  Not a bad plan at all!!   Beautiful morning.  Two eating fish and one 12 plus pounder!  Busy weekend ahead!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

This is NOT an easy place to grow a garden.  Short growing seasons, chisslers, birds - there are many things trying to wipe out the passionate gardener.  We had our first salad this weekend.  More is on the way.  An entire row of pearly white radishes has been harvested and another planted in their wake.  Spinach is getting picked and kale is right behind.  The days are simply divine.  Cool in the morning, warm in the afternoon, and maybe a nice rain to keep it all damp.

One Day Makes A Weekend!

Another great day on Jackson Lake!  Even Michael caught a fish!!  Okay, so I am superstitious!!  Same shirt, same hat, but different fish!!  I think this one was even bigger than last week's.  Not as good of a picture of me - the jowls were inherited, I think!!  This guy put on a GREAT fight!  Took him awhile to get his "fins" back under and swim off.  What a great way to end a week and be rejuvenated for the week ahead!!

Why People Fish, Ode to a Day on the Lake

This is why people fish.
To get up early.
To ride out on a big lake in a boat at sunrise.
To toss a line into the water with gleeful hope.
To fish for hours catching nothing, telling all the fishing stories of the past;
    remember the big waves that one afternoon?
    remember when the lake was frozen and we broke through the ice? Remember the sound the ice made when it cracked and flew onto itself?
    remember when Mary caught the fish, right after you and she got untangled?
    remember when it rained all day?
    remember the tarp overhang that kept us all warm and dry?
    remember the last year of the derby, when Kathy caught the 25 pound fish and won?
    remember, she not only won Big Fish, she won the coveted Asshole of the Year award that year too?   I think it was because she insisted on throwing her fish back, even though Game & Fish said the Park Service said it was to be killed....remember that?

It was an amazing catch.  It was an amazing release.  Live on my fish.  My heart is glad you are still swimming somewhere in Jackson Lake.  Thank you Benni for getting us to the spot, thank you Mo for netting that fish!  Thank you all for the Big Fish win, for the memories of 2015!!
