It's nice to have a winter project and a large space to be able to make it happen. This is barn quilt #3! The name of the quilt pattern is Jackson Hole Star. The colors represent the sky, the snow, the green conifer trees, and the red paintbrush flower. There is a gal building a fabric quilt out of this pattern too.
The place is the old May Barn which sits in a park preserved by the county. Set aside for gardens in the summer, cross country skiing in the winter, and a really great open space for a walk with the dog any time of the year, the barn on the property is the visual relief to the otherwise flat landscape. I had hoped to display on the east face (first photo), but clearly, the west face is the only good spot. Anyone want to bet whether there is 11.5 feet under the window and above the door? If not, it will have to be mounted square instead of on-the-point.
I promised Mike this would be the last one. Putting the thing together is a back killer. A zillion screws have to be put in at floor level. It assembles upside down which is somewhat nerve-racking. This one has 1/4" drop to lines that meet in the center. All you can do is line it out on the tables ahead. How it goes together is a bit of a gamble. This disparity WILL be noticed by the fussy quilt-makers; of this, I am certain.
Thank you Mr. Construction Guy. Painting all winter is easy duty. The work you put into the thing to bring it all together is hard, back-breaking work. I will really, really try hard to make this the last one!!
Look at the barn and imagine it there. Bright and shiny on the face of that old, historic barn. The family brand is getting made to put in the middle of the quilt. I think this will be a piece of art the community will applaud! Hoping to get it put on the barn the second week of June.......stay tuned!
