Sunday Fishing Day

It was a busy weekend with a day on Jackson Lake to enjoy.  Although the fishing was slow, we both caught a fish, this one weighing around 15 pounds.  Lots got done this long weekend; garden planting, filling of planters, grass cutting - all those summer things that fill up the plate!

Rhubarb salad dressing!

1/4 c red vinegar (raspberry is good)

1/4 c maple syrup

2 T Dijon mustard

Chop enough rhubarb to make 3/4 - 1 cup , cook w a bit of water until soft

Put this in your Nutrablender ( if you don't have one, what are you waiting for??)

Top w about 1/2 c canola oil

Bend, chill, enjoy!

(If your rhubarb isn't very red, add some frozen raspberries for color and taste!). This is yellow because of the room light. It is actually a nice pink.

Derby Winners 2016

On a dark and cold morning, boats made their way north to Jackson Lake for the 7am start of the 33rd BMT Derby last Saturday.  Ten boats launched from various docks around the lake and hunkered down for a day of weather and fishing.  Several rain storms blew through the area and white caps topped four foot waves by 2pm.  Fisherman gathered to tell their stories at the 4pm weigh-in.  This year's big fish weighed 12.5 pounds.  Mike's boat took the 1st place Creel Award with 17.65 pounds of fish caught by the crew.  Congratulations to All who made it back to the dock!  The Derby lives on!!

First Place, Big Fish.  Matt Nardacci, Skipper

Awesome Event at Reagan!

It is not very often that something really cool happens in an airport; I mean, your airplane shows up, you get on board, and your plane leaves without event - well, that's cool.  But what is happening right now at Reagan and what happens almost every day, is really really unique and special.

Behind me, there has been a bunch of clapping and whooping going on.  A brass horn plays military-type music.   I finally couldn't stand it any longer and went to investigate.  Every day, Delta flies World War II and Korean War veterans into DC for the day to tour the sites and to be honored. These passengers were from Grand Rapids.  A line of folks cheered, smiled, and shook their hands as they made their way off the plane.  Heart warming and wonderful; this scene was a moment to be proud for this amazing country we live in and those who sacrifice so much for our freedom.  Wow.  This was a really special moment.  I no longer begrudge the fact that I had so much time of waiting here in Reagan!!  Have a great day enjoying Washington, troops!  Thanks for your service!!

Update

Okay, okay - I know, it's time for an update!  Hey, I've been busy being studious and all!!  Great class, excellent instructors, and classmates.  I have gained some more solid ICS training.  This was well worth the time!

Looking forward to getting back home, being with Michael and dogs, and putting my head on my reasonably sized pillow (the ones here are giant!)!

Here is a picture I snapped on my walk two nights ago for training purposes.  Entitled, "Fuel Loading".  Imagine what would happen if a fire started on this deck.....sure hope those folks have a way out the back of that house!!

Happy Mother's Day!!

Happy Mother's Day - to the woman who got her pilot's license when I was in high school.  Who went on to get a nursing degree.  Who taught me life lessons and who understands the meaning of life; live every moment!  You ROCK, Mom!

Rennovation and Rejuvination

Work is happening at the Capitol.  Are they paining?  The tulips are quite finished, but the azaleas are amazing.  Sat down with Idaho Senator Crapo''s staff member Peter today and talked about wildland fire.  It went well.  Enjoyed a nice lunch at a little Mexican place and just spent a couple of hours listening to a very interesting presentation on cancer in the fire service.  Tak- aways from the presentation: quit smoking.  Eat well.  Exercise.  As you say so well, Mom, "if you live long enough, you are going to die!"

Tonight, the big lavish banquet.  I'll take my camera.  Chief Redwine will be driving up from Emmitsberg to join our table.  Check out the background in this first picture!
