And The Winner Is.....

It was Mike that saw the ad in the paper.  He brought the paper home - late summer, early fall last year.  He showed me the ad for the Star Valley Barn Quilt competition.  We began our quest and many of  you have been following the construction and hanging of the Sunflower Barn Quilt at K Lazy M Ranch.

Building a huge barn quilt took some planning; an investment in primer, paint, and brushes (I am a paint brush collector); a large space (this was made in the hanger), and time, of course.

Mike thinks first prize wins $1500.  I am sure it is at least $1000.  That's nice winnings for a wonderful winter project that kept me feeling busy and creative!

Around mid-May, Mike conjured up the idea on how to hang the heavy, giant "sign board".  Friends Stephanie and Brian came over to help get the monstrosity mounted on the west face of the shop.  That event went without a hitch, thanks to Michael's careful planning.

We won the First Place entry!!  Mike and I are just tickled pink!!  The Star Valley Barn Quilt folks have put together a great map to see where the quilts hang throughout Star Valley.  Check it out by clicking HERE TO SEE MAP  From my understanding, we are the only 8'x8' barn quilt, all the rest are 4'x4'.  There are some beautiful quilts here to view.  One is the one Brian and Stephanie created for their Farm Store in Grover.

We will be photographed and interviewed this weekend.

The sunflowers in the planter below the quilt grow daily.

I imagine the winnings will go into the making of another barn quilt or two.....!!
